MAY is a good looking, unique voice – sometimes close to the edge. Political, discriminating lyrics. Definitely no girlie chatter. Emotional borderline. Indietronic from the heart of Europe. Analog synths, attitude guitars and a fueling rhythm section. Underworld meets Sonic Youth.

MAY is the band of singer and actress Maewa Oria (voc), supported by Christoph Mause (git, keys, programming) and Carsten Schmidt (bass, keys, programming).

MAY was founded in the lovely city of Bochum – right in the middle of the Ruhrgebiet (…still the industrial heart of Germany and one of the most exciting melting pots in Europe) by actress and singer Maewa and guitarist and song writer Christoph Mause.

When the band relocated to Düsseldorf, recording studio owner and producer Carsten Schmidt joined the band and they started working in Carsten’s Ezy Sound Studios near Düsseldorf where MAY recorded their first EP “Poetry For Braindead” containing their first 3 songs and remixes by Markus Giltjes aka Bobok and my.cosmo. MAY’s first Single “Smear” entered the German University Airplay Charts as well as the local Ruhrcharts.

After a 2 year break – during Maewa lived in an ashram and became a Yoga master – the band released their first full-length album “My 1st Sony” on k22 music in February 15th 2019 followed by extensive live shows and festival gigs all over Germany.

In autumn the band started to work on promising new material which is expected in summer 2020.

When Bodo Staiger of Rheingold passed away in December MAY released a tribute version of Rheingolds famous “Dreiklangs-Dimensionen” which was festured extensively in radio stations and playlists.
